Interventions in communication, autonomy, eating and learning

Trivium La Caseta supports children and young people with diverse communication and developmental needs:

  • Individuals with complex communication needs (CCN)
  • Pragmatic and social difficulties
  • Specialist expertise in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and a range of disabilities

Our main aim is to provide holistic support to develop communication skills, autonomy and active participation, promoting inclusion and quality of life for children and adolescents and their families.

Interventions we provide

Areas of intervention

Augmentative or alternative
communication (AAC)

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems help people with communication difficulties to communicate. These systems can supplement or replace spoken language, supporting functional communication, autonomy and social participation.

At our centre, we use methods based on scientific evidence to introduce the most suitable system for each child, such as communication books or electronic devices (tablets or communication devices). These resources allow communication to be adapted to each person’s individual needs, supporting language development and encouraging social interaction.

Speech: phonetic organisation
and planning
(PROMPT method)

The PROMPT method is a specialised speech and language therapy intervention that uses tactile cues applied to the face to help children and adolescents organise and plan the phonetic movements needed for speech. It guides the jaw, lips and tongue to produce sounds and sequences accurately. It is particularly useful for motor disorders such as apraxia and dysarthria, and is recommended for people with ASD to improve speech production.

Expressive and receptive
language

In the area of expressive and receptive language, we work to expand each child or young person’s language skills. Our team will develop their listening comprehension and expression, helping them build richer, more coherent sentences, support functional communication and encourage social and academic development.

Social skills

At Trivium La Caseta, social skills are developed through shared sessions that work on communication and social cognition in a practical, hands-on way. These activities help children and young people develop strategies for interpreting social situations, expressing emotions and building positive relationships, encouraging participation and inclusion in their everyday environment.

Developing learning
skills

Developing learning skills is based on an approach tailored to each child or young person’s sensory, cognitive and social profile.

Specific programmes, such as the TEACCH method, help develop the skills needed for learning: motivation, independent working and the ability to apply learning in other settings.

Eating

Gradual intervention to address food selectivity, sensory aversion or restrictive eating patterns.

We work on desensitisation, introducing new foods and establishing healthy habits, supporting wellbeing and autonomy.

Play and connection
(PACT method)

We build on meaningful interactions and shared play to develop communication, joint attention and emotional connection.
We offer families practical strategies to encourage play and communication in the most natural everyday settings, strengthening the child’s initiative and the quality of their interactions with their surroundings.

This approach promotes opportunities for spontaneous learning and

emotionally safe, where play becomes the main vehicle for connection and social development.

Psychology Department

The psychology department at Trivium La Caseta supports the emotional, behavioural and social development of children and adolescents, both individually and in small groups, helping them manage emotions, cope with situations and adapt to change with confidence and flexibility.

Areas addressed include identity and self-esteem, decision-making, emotional regulation and conflict management, with the aim of promoting independence, participation and wellbeing in different everyday contexts.
